Auchencairn Community Council is made up of residents who have been elected by the community to form a consultation group that sits within a legal framework. By law we are consulted on local issues, for example planning and licensing, by statutory organisations such as Dumfries and Galloway council. We also listen to the views of local people to form responses. We can deal with a range of concerns – anti-social behaviour, salt bins, recycle bins, potholes, emergency planning and more. All of our meetings are open to the public.
Although our fundraising scope is limited, we can administer designated community funding such as that from the Robin Rigg wind farm. This enables us to support local projects allowing the upkeep of village assets including the Millennium Garden, the Memorial and the Link Park. As trustees of the Heughan Institute funds we also maintain and improve the Village Hall. We work in close partnership with other groups on projects, in particular Auchencairn Initiative, by providing administrative help and small donations.
