Behold the two new additions to our fleet! I present to you the Tern S00 (longtail) and Reise & Muller Load 75 (longjohn) electric cargo bikes. These can be configured in a number of different ways to carry passengers – up to 4 kids for the R&M and 2 kids or an adult for the Tern – and/or cargo – up to 200kg train weight for either bike. All this without breaking a sweat thanks to their excellent bosch motors and double batteries. And while keeping your passengers dry (no rain cover for the rider sadly!). They are fun to ride and make it possible to imagine how living car-free might be possible. They are available for hire to local residents for the fantastically low price of £5/day (this is made possible by our funders). You can get in touch by email to book one.
If you want a sneaky peak at them or maybe even a trial ride, I’ll be showing them off at the Auchencairn Fun Day on 22nd July 11.30 – 4pm (next Saturday).
I’d urge you also to get in touch if you want to hire one of the “normal” e-bikes. There are several of these available for hire right now (£20 / month).
I don’t think I’ve put out a newsletter since we did our solstice bike ride with the school. I haven’t checked about permissions for sharing photographs so won’t do that here, but suffice to say that it was an epic journey in a peloton of about 20 odd people (14 students with a few teachers and parents). We went down the mill road from the school and along the shore road to Balcary point where we all had a well deserved lunch and a rest (or play as the case may be) before heading back to the school up the tour de france level hill that is our very own main street. Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved, we look forward to doing more events with Auchencairn primary. Congratulations also to all the P7s who, although they sadly had to miss the ride as they were trying out secondary school for the week, they have all completed their level 2 bikeability with flying colours!
We are a little behind schedule with our regular events, but we have Dr bike and a Community Bike Ride lined up for you on Wednesday 26th July 2-6pm and Saturday 29th July from 1.30pm respectively – for more details look out for the posters soon to appear in the village shop (or contact James on 07835136248). If any of you is available and willing to volunteer for either of these events or for the Fun Day on the 22nd, please get in touch.
Happy cycling!
Denis
